Walk The Catwalk

Posted on Mar 26th, 2007 by Diane : Gaia Child Diane
We have created Walk the Catwalk in response to the events that have taken place in the fashion industry over the last six months. You might think that fashion doesn’t affect you, but think of this: Young women and girls are being bombarded by images of unattainable beauty in the press and most of the models they see are sizes 0-6 reflecting a very small percentage of the population. Years ago, fashion students were taught to create their collections on size 8 bustforms. They are now being taught on sizes 0-2. What does this say about future philosophies? What message will our daughters, grand-daughters and nieces be forced to absorb about “normal” sizing? 3 models have died in the last 6 months while trying to achieve an unattainable size in order to be selected to walk the runways of the world. High price to pay for fashion don’t you think? The models that appear on the runways of the world and in all forms of press are there because the sample sizes designers create fit them – generally sizes 0-6. If we change the sample sizes, we allow size diversity in the press and therefore into our homes through TV, magazines and eventually into our belief systems. Please take a moment to visit www.walkthecatwalk.com to see how we are trying to create a new fashion consciousness. The pod will give you/us an opportunity to discuss this issue and spread the word.

Amazing stories...

Posted on Jan 27th, 2007 by Diane : Gaia Child Diane
Hi, my name is Diane, I am new here. Just signed up today. This is officially the first "blog" I have ever done. I kept thinking what do you write about? And then I realized that I want to know people, so I was wondering if all of you could share a story with me. Anything you feel the world should know about. I guess I'll start. I live in NYC. It's an amazing place. One day while waiting for the subway at the 86st station, I heard this sound. I didn't know where it was coming from but it was so pure, so beautiful, tears came to my eyes. I started walking towards the music until I stood in front of this man playing a Pipa- a four stringed lute. He was from China. He used to be part of the China National Orchestra. He had traveled all through the world, playing for kings and presidents. But because of communism he and his family had to escape and moved to the States. I listened for while taking in the beautiful energy he was sharing with the world. I have never forgotten the beauty of his music. A year later I found out that he was recording with a band. This is the story of a man who fought for his dream and eventually was able to live his life the way he intended it to be. Your turn...
